Oxford Bursaries for students who started their course before 2012

The University has a generous bursary scheme available for students from the UK with qualifying household incomes who started their course before 2012. The Oxford Bursary is intended to cover some of the costs associated with living in Oxford, and also enable students to take advantage of the many opportunities Oxford has to offer.

The Oxford Bursary is available to all UK students paying the £3,465 tuition fee in 2013/14 with a household income before tax of less than £50,706.

The bandings below show the annual bursaries available from Oxford, dependent upon household income:

Eligibility

Courses

You must be studying for your first undergraduate degree or on the Graduate Entry Medicine course, and been financially assessed by your funding agency for maintenance support.

Medical Students

Home Medical Students are eligible to be assessed for an Oxford Bursary in the years during which they are eligible to receive funding from the NHS.

Students in years 5 or 6 of the six year medicine course, or years 2, 3 or 4 of the Graduate Entry Medicine course will be contacted automatically at the start of 2013/14 with details of how they will be assessed for a bursary. In the meantime, any questions about the Oxford Bursary scheme should be emailed to the bursary team at oxfordopportunity@admin.ox.ac.uk.

Status

You are unlikely to be entitled to receive an Oxford Bursary if:

  • you are a UK student who has completed a previous undergraduate degree and you are undertaking further undergraduate study; or
  • you are from the Isle of Man or Channel Islands, unless you receive maintenance support from the UK government, as you should receive funding from your own government; or
  • you are an EU student, unless you receive maintenance support from the UK government. Please note if you are only entitled to receive a tuition fee loan this does not count as maintenance support and you will not be entitled to an Oxford Bursary; or
  • you are an overseas student, unless you receive maintenance support from the UK government.
