Outgoing work placement students

Outgoing work placement students

Erasmus work placements are undertaken by Medieval and Modern Languages students on their year abroad. The placement can be a British Council Language Assistant position or an independently organised work placement, and can be either paid or unpaid.

Eligibility

  • The placement must be a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months in duration
  • Most types of employment will be eligible for Erasmus status – please see the Erasmus Outgoing Student Handbook (437kb) for more information
  • You must be working in one of the Erasmus qualifying European countries. This means that if you work as a British Council Language Assistant in Canada or Latin America then you will not be eligible for an Erasmus grant
  • You cannot have previously completed more than one Erasmus mobility whilst in higher education

Financial benefits

Erasmus grant

The Erasmus grant is intended to be a contribution towards the additional costs of your mobility, and is not a full maintenance grant. The amount of the Erasmus grant varies from year to year. The Erasmus grant level for 2013/14 is up to EUR 375 per month, dependent upon your host country, for each month of your placement.

Tuition fee waiver

Home or EU undergraduate students on their year abroad in 2013/14, who are completing an Erasmus placement for the full academic year, are currently eligible to have their Year Abroad tuition fee waived. Students who will be on their year abroad in 2014/15 or later will no longer be eligible for the Erasmus tuition fee waiver.

For more information about the undergraduate Year Abroad fees, please visit Year Abroad Fees: Current students.

How to apply

As a Medieval and Modern Languages student, you will be contacted by your faculty and the Erasmus office in the Hilary Term of the year preceding your year abroad with details of how to register for Erasmus funding.
