Santander Graduate Awards

Am I eligible? What does it cover? How do I apply? How will I know if I've been successful?

Since 1997, Santander Universities has been the focus of Santander’s corporate social responsibility activities. Between 1996 and 2011, Santander has channelled over £500 million into sponsorship of academic, research and technological projects in support of higher education. Oxford is one of the nearly 1,000 universities that collaborate with the Santander Universities Global Division.  In addition to the Santander Graduate Awards, Santander also funds academic travel grants, which are open to Oxford graduate students.

12 Santander Graduate Awards are available to support candidates applying for a full-time one-year Master’s degree  (except BCL, MJur, MBA, EMBA, MFE), and will last one year.

Santander Graduate Awards are made on the basis of academic excellence.

What does it cover?

The value of the award is £5,000. The award is tenable for one year only.

Some awards may be offered in conjunction with the Clarendon Fund Scholarship and therefore would be part of a fully funded scholarship package. This would apply if you are successful in being nominated through the selection process for the Clarendon Fund.

If Spanish, Portuguese, British or German candidates are nominated for Research Council Studentships and meet the criteria for the Santander Graduate Awards, this would be part of a scholarship package. This would apply if your course is eligible for the Research Council Studentship, that you apply for this funding and you are awarded this studentship. For full information about Research Council Studentships, applicants should contact their department.

The Santander Graduate Award can be held in conjunction with other awards.

How do I apply?

Apply at the same time as you apply to Oxford by selecting Santander Graduate Award in the Funding Section of the University's Graduate Application Form.  Candidates should apply by Application Deadline 2 Application Deadline 2 (4 January 2013 for Medical Sciences, Philosophy Politics and International Relations; 18 January 2013 for all other subjects).

Candidates nominated for a Clarendon Fund Scholarship or for a Research Council Studentship, and meet the criteria for Santander will be considered for joint awards with the Clarendon Fund or Research Council.

If you are from Spain, Portugal UK or Germany, you are advised to apply for a Research Council Studentship subject to eligibility.

If you are from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain Uruguay, Venezuela, UK or USA you will also be considered for a joint Santander-Clarendon Fund.

In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must have secured a place on your chosen programme of study by the expected final decision date (13 March 2013).  Applications with an outstanding admissions decision after this date, or applications which are re-evaluated against the later March deadline field, are not eligible for scholarship consideration.

Applicants who are ‘re-routed’ (accepted onto a different programme of study to the one they originally applied for e.g. transferred from an MPhil to a DPhil or from one course to another) should contact us as soon as they are notified of the change in order to ensure that their application for a scholarship is maintained on their new programme of study.

How will I know if I have been successful?

The Santander Graduate Awards have now been made. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to contact unsuccessful applicants individually or provide feedback on applications.
