IDB-Oxford Clarendon Scholarships

Am I eligible? What does it cover? How do I apply? How will I know if I have been successful? Further information

The Islamic Development Bank was established in 1973 and aims to foster the economic development and social progress of its member countries. These Scholarships enable academically outstanding students to study at Oxford and contribute to the improvement of socio-economic conditions in their country.

The Scholarships are supported jointly by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the University of Oxford.

Am I eligible?

You should be applying to start a new full-time graduate course in the Mathematics, Physical and Life Sciences (MPLS), Medical Sciences or Social Sciences Divisions. Please ensure that you meet the selection criteria for your course (see the Course Guide for more information).

Candidates should be from one of the IDB member countries and be nominated by the IDB for the scholarship - having submitted successful applications to the relevant office of the IDB Governor - through their nominating institution. As the Scholarships are made in partnership with the Clarendon Fund, all candidates must also have applied for admission to Oxford and been selected for a Clarendon Scholarship.

This scholarship is not open to candidates applying for Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma courses, part-time courses, non-matriculated courses or to students with deferred entry.

What does it cover?

The combined IDB-Oxford Clarendon Scholarship will cover 100% of university and college fees and a grant for living expenses (at least £13,726).

Awards are made for the full duration of a student's fee liability for the agreed course. The continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based on satisfactory academic progress.

How do I apply?

In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must submit your application for graduate study by the relevant January deadline for your course (10 January 2014 for Medical Sciences, Philosophy, Politics & International Relations and Computer Science; 24 January 2014 for all other subjects).

Candidates must also apply directly to IDB.

Candidates must have been nominated by both the IDB and by the University for a Clarendon Fund Scholarship, through their parallel selection procedures, in order to be awarded the IDB-Oxford Clarendon Scholarship.

If you do not apply as detailed above by the deadline, you will not be considered for this scholarship.

Additional points to note when applying for this scholarship:

If, following the assessment of the January deadline applications, your department places your application on a waiting list or decides to re-evaluate it against the applications received for the next deadline (14 March 2014), then you will no longer be eligible for this scholarship.

If you are accepted onto a different course from the one you originally applied for, you should contact us as soon as you are notified of the change in order to ensure that your application for a scholarship is maintained on the new course. However, please note that such a change of course may mean that you are no longer eligible for this scholarship.

How will I know if I have been successful?

This webpage will be updated to show when all decisions have been made. If you have not heard from us by the time this notice is posted, then your application to this scheme has been unsuccessful. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to contact unsuccessful applicants individually or provide feedback on applications.
