The overall aim of the scheme is to attract top quality students from India, China, Hong Kong, Brazil, South Africa, Russia and the developing world to study for doctoral degrees in highly rated UK research environments. Each DHPA award is funded by one of the UK Research Councils and one private sector partner.
Please note that only one award was made for 2011/12 and it is uncertain whether awards will be available in future years. The future of this scheme is currently under review.
Am I eligible?
Applicants should be nationals of an OECD developing country. You must have at least the equivalent of a UK first class honours degree from a prestigious academic institution and be demonstrably in the top 20% of DPhil candidates. Awards are only tenable in departments that are RAE-rated 5 or 5*. For a list of these, please see the Oxford RAE results page. Preference is given to new DPhil students although departments may occasionally consider students who are currently in their first year of DPhil study.
What does it cover?
