This scheme aims to provide Chinese students who demonstrate both academic excellence and leadership potential with the opportunity to study for a DPhil at the University of Oxford.
The scholarships are supported jointly by the China Scholarship Council (on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Education) and the University of Oxford.
Am I eligible?
Candidates should be applying to start a new DPhil course in any subject at the University of Oxford. They must be Chinese nationals ordinarily resident in the mainland Peoples' Republic of China (i.e. not Hong Kong or Macao), and must be intending to return there after completing their studies. Applicants must have graduated from one of the 211 project universities.
Candidates must demonstrate both academic excellence and the potential to become a leader in their field, a decision-maker and opinion former within China. They must be prepared to return home upon completion of their studies.
What does it cover?
100% of university and college fees, a grant for living expenses (the rate for 2011-12 is £12,300), and one return airfare (China-UK-China).
Awards are made for the full duration of a student's fee liability for the agreed course. The continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based on satisfactory academic progress.
How do I apply?
1) Apply at the same time as you apply to Oxford by selecting Chinese Ministry of Education - University of Oxford Scholarships in the Funding Section of the University's Graduate Application Form.
In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must submit your application for graduate study by the January deadline (6 January 2012 for Medical Sciences and Philosophy; 20 January 2012 for all other subjects) and you must have secured a place on your chosen programme of study by the expected final decision date (17 March 2012). Applications with an outstanding admissions decision after this date, or applications which are re-evaluated against the later March deadline field, are not eligible for scholarship consideration.
If you do not apply in full by the deadline, you will not be considered for the Scholarship, even if you have selected Chinese Ministry of Education - University of Oxford Scholarships on the Graduate Application form.
2) You must apply separately to the China Scholarship Council (CSC) for this scholarship. Application processes with the CSC are currently being finalised.
How will I know if I have been successful?
This webpage will be updated to show when all decisions have been made. If you have not heard from us by the time this notice is posted, then your application to this scheme has been unsuccessful. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to contact unsuccessful applicants individually or provide feedback on applications.
