Fee liability
Maximum liabilities quoted on this page are taken from detailed information contained in the University's Regulations on Financial Matters (Examination Regulations, Appendix I), which are the definitive source for information on University fees.
When do I have to pay my fees?
Students are required to pay their fees for the year no later than week 1 in the term in which they commence study or 7 days after the actual start date of the course if this is later. Students should contact their college to check payment arrangements as these can differ across the collegiate University. For further information on paying University tuition fees see our payments and refunds page.
What is my standard period of University tuition fee liability?
Length of fee liability means the length of time that you have to pay tuition fees to the University. Your normal period of fee liability will usually be the same as the standard length of your course. For further information see standard completion times and standard fee liability. Both expected completion time and standard period of fee liability are different for part-time courses. For graduate students starting research study in 2011/12 or later, the University will apply a termly continuation charge if additional time is needed.
What is my standard period of college fee liability?
You will not usually be expected to pay a full college fee once you have reached the end of the standard period of University tuition fee liability. Some colleges levy a continuation charge if you need extra time to complete your studies after reaching the end of the standard period of University tuition fee liability. Details are given under the college guide in the Graduate Prospectus.
What fees or charges are payable after I've reached the standard period of tuition fee liability?
Currently some colleges apply a termly continuation charge once students have exceeded the standard period of University tuition fee liability. Details are given under the college guide in the Graduate Prospectus.
The University will be applying a similar continuation charge for graduate students starting research study in 2011/12 or later (this includes any students progressing from a postgraduate taught degree to a research degree in 2011/12). The charge is £400 per term (there are three terms each year) which will apply to all students regardless of Home/EU or Overseas fee status. Further details, including information on the financial support associated with this charge, are available in our Continuation Charge FAQ.
Fees may also be payable if you need to re-sit an exam or need to re-submit a thesis or dissertation. More details on these fees are available on the other charges page.
Does the University apply any fees or charges in addition to University tuition fees and college fees?
Some charges are made in addition to University tuition fees and college fees, for example if you want to change your options after the deadline, need to resubmit your thesis, or need a transcript. More details on these fees and charges are available on the other charges page.
