Wayne Marshall believes in making music fun. A master of improvisation, his programme takes us ‘From Bach to Gershwin’ via anything else the audience puts to him. At the top of his profession in three separate roles - solo organist, pianist and internationally renowned conductor – Marshall has a vast repertoire, encompassing both wide ranges of classical and modern music. He is specially renowned for his interpretations of Gershwin, Bernstein, Ellington and other 20th century American composers. At the start of the current season, Marshall took up the prestigious position of Chief Conductor, WDR Funkhausorchester, Cologne. “I’m essentially an improvisatory animal, and unless a piece speaks directly to me, I’d rather stick to my own invention.”
