Haydn: Missa Sancti Joannis de Deo in Bb (‘Little Organ Mass’)
Mozart: Litaniae lauretanae, K 109
Monteverdi: Cantate Domino a 2
Cavalli: Nisi Dominus
Telemann: Laudate Jehovam (Psalm 117)
Haydn’s delightful ‘Little Organ Mass’, with its gorgeous ‘Benedictus’ for soprano and organ, is the principal work in this programme of Baroque and Classical music, which also features one of Mozart’s shorter sacred pieces. Monteverdi, best-known for his great 1610 Vespers, is represented by the beautiful miniature motet, ‘Cantate Domino’, – a duet for two sopranos - with many of the same traits as his earlier masterpiece. The programme is completed with rarely performed works by Cavalli and Telemann.
