Sonata for Viola and Piano op.121 No. 2

Krzysztof Chorzelski, world-renowned violist of the Belcea Quartet, and pianist Maciej Grzybowski present two important additions to the viola’s repertoire. The first is a recently discovered early masterpiece by a maverick Polish pianist-composer André Tchaikowsky (1935-1982), who spent a large part of his life in Oxford. The second new work, recently given its world premiere in Warsaw by Krzysztof and Maciej (its dedicatees), is by the leading Polish composer Pawel Szymanski. The duo will also perform classic works by Brahms and Britten to complete a highly-virtuosic programme that makes a special feature of the viola’s unique sound and identity.
