The Middle East is passing through almost unprecedented turmoil, as the progressive aspirations associated with the “Arab spring” have often given way to violence and sectarianism. In Syria, the outcome has been a prolonged and tragic civil war, while in Egypt the army is once again the arbiter of political change. On the other hand, the rapprochement between Iran and the West may have profound effects on the rest of the region. An understanding of the politics of the Middle East has never been more important: during this day school leading experts will discuss the most important questions concerning the future stability of the region.
