Join acclaimed artist Cornelia Parker as she discusses her practice, with a focus on the ideas and inspiration behind Magna Carta (An Embroidery). Parker will reflect on how in both the making and manifestation of this work she hopes to embody principles of democracy, fairness and justice. The lecture will be followed by a glass of wine in Blackwell Hall.
Parker’s Magna Carta (An Embroidery) an exact replica of the Wikipedia article on Magna Carta as it appeared on the document’s 799th anniversary in 2014, is on display at the Bodleian Library until 3 January. The work was stitched by over 200 contributors including prisoners, lawyers and human rights campaigners.
