Join members of the Rwandan community to commemorate those who perished during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. During the genocide more than one million people lost their lives in just 100 days. Every year Rwandans ask the world to come together to support the survivors of the genocide and to ensure that such an atrocity can never happen again. The commemoration event will start at 3pm at Mansfield College chapel, with opening prayers, panel discussion, survivor testimony and candle lighting. Guests will then walk to Pitt Rivers Museum for refreshments, songs from the Oxford Rwandan Choir and to view 'Kwibuka Rwanda', a new exhibition that raises awareness and understanding of the way Rwandans commemorate victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
