The Expedition Planning Evening, hosted by the Oxford University Exploration Club, is an introduction to the process of planning an expedition and applying for funding.
We will be joined by Shane Winser of the Royal Geographical Society, who will give a presentation on expedition planning. Shane is is an expeditions and fieldwork advisor, with a huge amount of knowledge, experience, and unparalleled enthusiasm for exploration. She runs Geography Outdoors: the centre supporting field research, exploration and outdoor learning (formerly the Expedition Advisory Centre), which provides training and advice to 1500+ scientific educational and adventurous expeditions a year. She has assisted in the planning and organisation of several of the RGS’s research programmes, and also sits on the Oxford University Expeditions Council.
There will also be short presentations by some of the club's senior members, about some of the resources and assistance the club can offer to those planning expeditions, as well as personal experiences of the expedition planning process. The event will be followed by drinks and nibbles, giving the chance to chat about expedition ideas and get advice.
£3 entry or free to members. Membership can be bought on the night. Event and membership open to all.
