A talk about how the design on a dinner service, the story of Math ap Mathonwy and the valley of Llanymawddwy combined to inspire the creation of Alan Garner’s novel, 'The Owl Service'. Griselda Garner will tell stories of its background and the development from first idea to completed novel, and how, forty-five years after its publication, the name of the designer of the plates was finally discovered.

Attendees are invited to bring copies of 'The Owl Service' for Alan Garner to sign after the talk. Copies will also be available in the Bodleian Shop.
