On this day in 1858, Sir William Fox took the premiership of New Zealand, to be ousted only thirteen days later. A student at Wadham College, Fox emigrated to New Zealand and quickly rose through the colonial ranks. A second premiership, in 1861, was more successful, lasting for thirteen months. Credit: ODNB
