Annual Review 2020

Meeting the pandemic challenge

This year’s annual review tells the story of how the University responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sections that follow give an overview of the breadth and depth of Oxford’s contribution to the world’s response as COVID-19 took hold, from developing a new vaccine to testing existing therapeutics, from advising policy-makers to interpreting the pandemic through the Humanities. As the first dose of the Oxford vaccine was administered on January 4, 2021, the global impact of the University’s research was arguably greater than at any time in its history, while the critical contribution of research universities to the health and wealth of society had been strongly reaffirmed.
