Oxford Pathways Programme

The Pathways Programme is an initiative coordinated by the Colleges of the University of Oxford, with support from the Sutton Trust. The programme aims to provide information, advice and guidance on higher education and Oxford to academically able students, and staff members, in non-selective state schools with little history of student progression to Oxford.  All of our events are run in Oxford, and are free to attend.

Is my school eligible?

We work with specifically targeted state schools across the UK. On the whole these are schools without sixth forms, or schools with little, if any, history of sending students to Oxford. If you would like to check whether your school is eligible please contact us on pathways@admin.ox.ac.uk.

Year 10 Taster Days:

These days run from February to June and give academically able year 10 students a chance to visit Oxford for a taste of what it would be like to study here.  The programme includes an introduction to higher education and student finance, interactive sessions with current students, lunch served in the college dining hall, and participation in an academic activity. Applications for 2014 will open September 2013, when full details will be published here. If you have any questions about Taster Days please contact Emma on pathways@admin.ox.ac.uk

Year 11 Investigating Options Day:

On Thursday 14, Tuesday 19 and Friday 22 November 2013 we will be running ‘Investigating Options’ days to provide year 11 students with advice and guidance on their post-16 options. Each event will include academic taster sessions and talks on A Level choice and post-university career options. Sessions will be run for accompanying teachers with detailed information on the Oxford application process, A Level subject choice, and how to prepare students for research-intensive university entry. Schools may send up to 10 pupils and two members of staff to the event.

Applications are open now, and close at 5pm on Friday 27 September. If the events are oversubscribed, we will prioritise schools which brought a year 10 cohort on one of our events in 2013, schools with a high free school meals rate, and schools with a viable cohort of high-achieving students. The application form can be found here. Any questions about the event should be addressed to Ashley on pathways@admin.ox.ac.uk.

Year 12 Study Days:

Year 12 Study Days offer students the chance to experience their chosen subject through a day of academic sessions run by Oxford tutors. Next year's events are planned for March 2014. If you have any questions about the Study Days please email Joe or Alice on pathways@admin.ox.ac.uk.

Year 13 Application Information Day:

This event provides information and advice on personal statements, tests and interviews, and involves subject-specific as well as general sessions. Students will have the opportunity to speak to academics, current undergraduates and admissions staff. It’s aimed at students who are about to submit an application to the University of Oxford. The next event will be in September 2013. Bookings will open in late June 2013.

If you have queries about any aspect of the programme, or would like to be added to our mailing list, please contact Alice on pathways@admin.ox.ac.uk.
