Compass: Young Carers Programme
Compass: Young Carers is a sustained contact programme targeted at students who have caring responsibilities at home. Not surprisingly, this responsibility often impacts on educational attainment and leads to lower rates of progression into further or higher education.
The programme will support these young people to make informed choices for their own lives after compulsory schooling finishes. Over the course of the programme the participants will explore their options and identify education or training paths that could help them achieve their goals.
I now know what I need to achieve to reach my goals.

What happens on the Compass: Young Carers Programme?
This year we have decided to run a joint programme for both Year 10 and Year 11 students.
The programme will run from October 2013 until April
2014. At the end of the programme we will hold a celebration or ‘treat’ event
for participants who have attended at least the minimum number of workshops.
There may be the opportunity to take part in other events between April 2014
and August 2014, and details of these and the overnight (residential) event will
be provided nearer the time.
Saturday workshops will run from 10.00am to 3.30pm on the
following dates:
2013: 12
& 26 October 9 & 23 November
2014: 11
& 25 January 8 & 22
February 8 & 22 March

After the programmes finish we will stay in touch with the students during their GCSEs and whatever they decide to do next.
