Compass: Young Carers Programme
Compass: Young Carers is a sustained contact programme targeted at students who have caring responsibilities at home. Not surprisingly, this responsibility often impacts on educational attainment and leads to lower rates of progression into further or higher education.
The programme will support these young people to make informed choices for their own lives after compulsory schooling finishes. Over the course of the programme the participants will explore their options and identify education or training paths that could help them achieve their goals.

Year 10 participant
What happens on the Compass: Young Carers Programme?
Year 10
Students will attend six workshops hosted by Jesus College, University of Oxford. These will include confidence building and assertiveness training sessions, as well as
workshops on higher and further education and progression routes.
The culmination of
the programme will be a two-night residential, rewarding the participants for their hard work by providing them with a break from their caring duties.

Year 11
Students will attend five workshops held at the University of Oxford. These will include study and revision skills sessions, as well as
workshops on applications and interviews and progression routes.
The programme will end with a two-night residential in April, combining supported revision and the chance to do something completely different.

Year 10
Applications for the Year 10 programme beginning in January 2013 are now open. Application forms and more information are currently available on the right hand side of this page.
Applications for the Year 10 programme will close on Friday 16th November, 2012.
Year 11
Applications for the Year 11 programme beginning in Autumn 2012 are now closed.
