Interview arrangements for international students

International applicants apply in exactly the same way as other applicants: you will need to complete a UCAS application by 15 October and take any written test and submit any written work that is required for your subject. Please note that early registration may be required for any written tests, so it is important to check the details for your subject.  See How to apply for further information and also the Summary of written test requirements.

We interview all UK students who are shortlisted.  Ideally we would also like to interview all shortlisted international applicants as well but because of geographical distance and visa requirements we realise this is not always possible. Please read the details below for further information about the interview arrangements.

All applicants for Medicine

All shortlisted applicants for Medicine will be invited to come to Oxford for an interview in December. If you are shortlisted, you must attend this interview in Oxford if you would like your application to be considered.

Applicants for other subjects

Students holding a passport from the European Economic Area
(EU and Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) and Switzerland

If you hold a passport from this region then you will not require a visa to travel to the UK. If you apply from one of these countries and you are shortlisted and invited to interview in December, you must attend the interview in Oxford if you would like your application to be considered.

Students from other regions of the World

i. Visa nationals
If you are a student holding a passport from a country outside the European Economic Area and you are a visa national, not currently in the UK (that is, someone who requires a visitor visa before travelling to the UK) we anticipate there will be insufficient time for you to obtain a visitor visa to come to Oxford. This is because there is only a short time frame between shortlisting in November and the interview period in Oxford in December.  If you cannot attend the interview in Oxford, the college which is considering your application may choose to interview you by telephone, video conference or over the internet through Skype, but such an interview cannot be guaranteed.

ii. Non visa nationals
If you are a student holding a passport from outside the European Economic Area and you are a non-visa national, which is someone from a country not on the list of visa nationals , then you can ask to be given permission to enter as a visitor on arrival in the UK. You would need to show you have the finances to support yourself during your stay and produce the letter inviting you to interview when you arrive in the UK. We would recommend that students in this situation do try to attend an interview in Oxford in December if shortlisted. However, we understand that students from other parts of the world may not be able to travel at short notice. In this case the college which is considering your application may choose to interview you by telephone, video conference or over the internet through Skype, but such an interview cannot be guaranteed.
