What is the Sutton Trust?
The Sutton Trust is an organisation with the core aim of improving social mobility through education. They do this through work covering many areas from parenting and early years projects, primary and secondary schooling and access to university and the professions. There are three broad areas that address the Trust's work: programmes (the Oxford Teacher Summer School is one of over 200 that the Trust fund), research and advocacy. You can find out more about the Trust and their work on their website.
What is the Teacher Summer School?
The Sutton Trust Oxford Teacher Summer School is a CPD accredited two-day residential conference for teachers at state-funded schools and colleges in the UK. The conference aims to support teachers to stretch and challenge their most able students, and equip them with the best possible advice and guidance on selective university admissions.
Who can attend the Teacher Summer School?
There are 80 places available at the conference for both humanities and STEM teachers at state-funded schools and colleges in the UK. We particularly welcome applications to attend from schools with a limited history of sending students to selective universities generally and Oxford specifically.
Participation in the conference is free and includes two nights accommodation in an Oxford college and meals. We can also offer a contribution towards the travel and cover costs associated with attending.
What can you expect from the Teacher Summer School?
The programme will comprise a variety of sessions, including information about the Oxford admissions process, supporting students' subject choice, as well as subject-specific academic workshops, led by tutors. There will also be an opportunity to hear from current Oxford undergraduate students about their experience of university life.
