Career Service offerings

The University of Oxford’s comprehensive Careers Service offers support to students and alumni to help them define and achieve exciting and fulfilling careers. Workshops and training are available to help:

  • Build a strong CV/résumé
  • Develop an effective job search strategy
  • Make competitive job applications
  • Develop interview skills

The Careers Service also offers a successful student consultancy programme, a wide range of web resources, and an exceptional Internship Programme which gives Oxford students access to a number of global summer internships, most of which are provided by Oxford alumni or through business or educational partnerships.

Brazilian alumni

There are over 700 Oxford alumni in South and Central America (excluding Mexico), 246 of whom live in Brazil. There is a Brazil alumni branch in Rio de Janeiro, OUS Brazil, which aims to provide help to any alumni in Brazil, and to put alumni in touch with one another. Their main event is a dinner that is organised every two years in conjunction with Cambridge alumni, with speakers from both universities including Ambassadors and Ministers.

Oxford’s distinguished Brazilian alumni include:

  • Vinícius de Moraes (1913-1980), diplomat, poet, songwriter, author of the Portuguese lyrics of "The Girl from Ipanema" (British Council fellowship to study English language and literature at Magdalen College, 1938)
  • Lourdes Sola, professor (retired) of the Department of Political Science, University of São Paulo, past President of the International Political Science Association, 2006 – 2009
  • Matias Spektor, DPhil in International Relations (2007), professor at Fundação Getúlio Vargas, Rio de Janeiro (FGV-Rio). He has a column in the newspapers Folha de S. Paulo and International Herald Tribune
