Centre for Doctoral Training in Healthcare Innovation DPhil

Course Code | 002465

Students undertake a four-year training programme. The first year is devoted to acquiring the essential theoretical and technical skills from the physical sciences, and background knowledge in the life sciences. In addition students will complete a short hospital internship, one 4-week market research project and one 12-week short research project.

Students then transfer into their main research group for their DPhil studies. Students will complete their main research project in one of the three research areas of the CDT:

  • Information-driven healthcare
  • Cancer therapeutics and delivery
  • Modelling for personalised healthcare

The deadlines for this course are 16 November 2012, 18 January 2013 and 8 March 2013. Overseas candidates applying for the CDT's Clarendon Scholarships or other Oxford funding must apply by the January deadline to meet the scholarship deadlines.

Academic resources

The CDT has its own dedicated teaching space within the Institute of Biomedical Engineering - the 'CDT Training Room'.

In addition, the CDT draws upon expertise and resources from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Engineering Science.

Graduate destinations

This is the fourth year of the CDT in Healthcare Innovation therefore there are no graduates from the programme at present; the first cohort of students will graduate in September 2013.

However graduates will have the skills and knowledge to pursue careers in academic or industrial biomedical research.

Entry requirements

Good undergraduate honours degree (minimum of upper second class or equivalent) in Physical Sciences (e.g. Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics).

 

Life Science graduates with strong Mathematics skills will be considered
