DPhil in Evidence-Based Health Care (part-time)

The part-time DPhil Programme considers applications from those who have completed the MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care. Applications may also be considered from students with a Master's in a related subject.

Thesis topics should have a significant focus on issues related to evidence-based practice, e.g. assessing the extent to which research findings are incorporated into practice; barriers to getting evidence into practice; implementation and evaluation of projects aiming to get evidence into practice; or methodological issues in research synthesis etc.

The DPhil should not focus on a primary research topic that would be better suited to a different discipline, e.g. health services research or primary research in a particular speciality.

Taught programmes

MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care (part-time)

Course Code | 000130 

The MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care is offered part-time consisting of six assessed taught modules, some of which are online, and a supervised research project within a dissertation. The structure of the course has been devised to be flexible to maximise student choice and fit with different working structures and UK specialist training.

It is a joint programme with the Department of Primary Health Care Sciences and the Department for Continuing Education’s Continuing Professional Development Centre. The programme is supported by the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine based in the Department of Primary Health Care Sciences.

  • Length of programme: One to four years, normally completed in two or three years, part-time study.
