DPhil in Cyber Security Centre for Doctoral Training

Course Code | 002457

Students undertake a four-year doctoral training programme. The first two terms are devoted to acquiring the necessary theoretical and technical skills from the physical and social sciences, as well as business and international relations, through a combination of intensive lecture courses, practicals, seminars, project work, industry deep dives, field trips and leadership/research skills training. 

Over the third term and summer period of the first year, students undertake two mini projects of approximately twelve weeks’ duration, with options for internships. These are similar in scope to a Masters’ level project.  

On completion of the projects, students undertake their substantive DPhil research projects within one of the four key research themes: 

  • Security of Big Data
  • Cyber-physical security
  • Effective systems verification and assurance
  • Real-time security

The deadlines for the DPhil in Cyber Security are 10 January 2014 and 14 March 2014.

The research proposal for applicants to the DPhil in Cyber Security should be in the form of a personal statement of 1,000-1,500 words.

The document should detail why you wish to study Cyber Security and how your background relates to the topic, also indicating how an interdisciplinary approach to the topic would be beneficial.

Academic resources

The Cyber Security CDT has its own dedicated teaching space, including offices, a seminar and meeting room and a library.

In addition, it draws upon expertise and resources from many Departments across the MPLS and Social Sciences Divisions, in particular from the Cyber Security Centre and Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security.
