How to Apply

The deadlines for the DPhil and MSc (R) courses are 22 November 2013, 24 January 2014 and 14 March 2014. Applications may be accepted after the March deadline if places and projects remain available.

Applications for central scholarships should be submitted by 20 January, and applications for BBSRC Studentships should be submitted by 6 January. For all other applications, please see the information about funding opportunities and deadlines on the Chemistry website.

The standard set of materials you should send with any application to a research course comprises:

However, applicants to the DPhil and MSc (R) in Organic Chemistry do not need to provide a detailed research proposal - instead, please provide an indication of the area of your proposed research & the names of three (3) supervisors in order of preference. A list of academic staff is available on the Chemistry website

All candidates are strongly advised to contact the department for advice and assistance before submitting an application

Please follow the detailed instructions in the Application Guide, and consult the Chemistry website for any additional guidance.

Academic resources

Chemistry Research Laboratory

The Department took possession of a new £62 million Chemistry Research Laboratory in 2004, consisting of approximately 16,500 m2 of state-of-the-art laboratory and office space contained on five floors.

All of the research groups in Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology, as well as a number of those in Inorganic Chemistry and Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, are accommodated in this superb building.

Radcliffe Science Library

The main science and medicine research library of the University, holding over one million items.

Graduate destinations
