St Hugh's College

St Hugh’s College is situated about ten minutes’ walk from the city centre among spacious and beautiful gardens. Known for its friendly and informal atmosphere, St Hugh's welcomes a diverse community of graduates from all over the world.

The College is committed to promoting a thriving culture of research and intellectual engagement and is able to consider applicants for programmes in most fields. Each graduate is assigned a College Advisor whom they can consult on academic or personal matters.

Graduate students are similarly involved in all aspects of artistic, sporting and social life at St Hugh's as members of its active Middle Common Room (MCR).

Facilities for students with disabilities

Applications from students with disabilities are welcome. The College has a limited number of rooms with disabled access, and will make adjustments wherever possible.

Library resources

The College has a large and well-stocked library, with 24-hour access.

Computing resources

All student rooms have internet access points and the MCR has its own computer room. The College provides extensive IT support services.

Art, music, drama and sport

The College's gardens offer a venue for croquet, tennis and frisbee, and St Hugh's is the only college with its own basketball courts. Other sports are catered for at the College's own ground, only a few minutes away by bicycle. The College has a shared boathouse and its own new on-site multi-gym.

Accommodation and meals

Most graduate accommodation is provided as single study-bedrooms within large Victorian houses situated around the College site and is separate from the undergraduate accommodation. Studio accommodation is available for married couples.

Meals are available in College almost throughout the year, and separate kitchen facilities are also provided.

Funding and prizes

The College offers a small number of studentships. These awards are intended to assist students of proven outstanding academic excellence at the graduate level, and are restricted to those who have already been accepted to begin a research degree.

A small amount of funding is available for course-related travel; limited funds are also available for those wishing to present at a course-related conference.

For more information, please see the College website and the Oxford Funding Search.

MCR

St Hugh's Middle Common Room (MCR) plays an active role in college life, organising social activities and speaker meetings. The MCR participates in College sporting, musical and dramatic events, and sends representatives to relevant College committees.
