St Edmund Hall

St Edmund Hall is renowned for its friendly, informal atmosphere and is home to a lively and diverse graduate community. We have a strong commitment to graduate students and graduate study. Graduate students form an increasing proportion of the Hall and represent a diverse population of students from across the world studying a wide range of subjects.

Graduate students are fully integrated into College life through academic, social, cultural and sporting events and interactions between graduates and fellows are facilitated through MCR/SCR academic events.

St Edmund Hall is able to consider applications in most fields and each graduate is allocated a College Adviser who is available for consultation on academic and personal matters. Various events are held to welcome graduate students and provide opportunities for academic and social interaction throughout the academic year.

Facilities for Students with Disabilities

St Edmund Hall is keen to provide for any graduate students with special needs or disabilities. We have easy access to all main areas of the College and have some specially adapted accommodation on the main site.

Library Resources

The library of St Edmund Hall is located within the Norman Church of St Peter-in-the-East, making it a beautiful setting for study. This library is well-stocked and additional special collections are held in the separate 17th Century ‘Old Library’ – also on the main site of the College.

Computing Resources

  • All college sites, including study bedroom accommodation, have Wireless and landline LAN connections.
  • The College has dedicated graduate computer rooms, with printing facilities, located within its MCR on the main site and our Norham Gardens graduate accommodation.

Art, Music, Drama and Sport

  • St Edmund Hall graduate students participate in many sports teams and crews. We have a dedicated multi-gym at our Norham Gardens graduate centre as well as a boathouse.
  • There is a strong artistic community built around the John Oldham Drama Society, the College art collection, an orchestra, choir and choral groups and a music practice room.

Other Facilities

Graduates have their own popular MCR common room on the front quadrangle of the main site. Here newspapers and magazines are available, and tea and  coffee are served throughout the day. Graduate may also dine with fellows on High Table each week.

Accommodation and Meals

other line

St Edmund Hall aims to house all of its first year graduates in College accommodation.

  • The main accommodation site is our attractive St Edmund Hall Graduate Centre in Norham Gardens, close to the University Parks, shops and many University Departments. This is a prime location within Oxford and only a short walk from the main College site and departments and libraries. The Centre includes a laundry, gym, computing room, common room and television room.
  • There are eleven self-contained flats for couples as well as a self-contained house, some of which can also house families.
  • Meals can be taken in Hall alongside other student members of the College on the main site; however, there are excellent self-catering kitchen facilities on the Norham Gardens site.
