St Antony’s is a cosmopolitan, vibrant community of graduate students specialising in the social sciences and humanities, known internationally for its stimulating intellectual life and rich cultural environment.

The College is a leading centre for the study of history, international relations, economics, development studies, politics and anthropology of different regions of the world.

The College occupies a pleasant site in leafy North Oxford close to the city centre. The following area studies centres are part of or associated with the College:

Accommodation and meals

The majority of accommodation is on the College site, with 50 newly-refurbished en-suite rooms in the Founder's Building and 54 en-suite rooms in the new Gateway and Shakar buildings. Further rooms are located in converted Victorian houses with communal kitchens and bathrooms; some of these rooms have washbasins.

Lunch and dinner are available in the College Hall daily for most of the year, with the exception of Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Library and IT services

The collective holdings of the Main Library and Centre Libraries comprise over 110,000 volumes. Subscriptions to current periodicals number about 300.

The Main Library itself holds over 60,000 volumes and subscribes to over 70 current journals with the general collections in modern history, politics, international relations and economics, the collections on Europe, Asia, and the non-Slavonic collections on Russia, the former USSR and Eastern Europe.

The Main Library also houses some 20th century archive collections including the Wheeler-Bennett papers. 

There is a 24-hour access computer room available for college members. All College rooms are connected to the university network and wifi access is available throughout the College.

Sport, music and college facilities

St Antony’s has an excellent reputation for its cultural diversity and lively environment, which is reflected in the wide variety of extra-curricular activities found around College, which any student can contribute to.

Currently, these include:

  • STAIR (St Antony’s International Review), a peer-reviewed journal run by graduate students and published twice a year
  • St Antony's Gardening Society
  • Environmental Society
  • Oxford University Africa Society
  • Antonian Spouses' Society
  • European Movie Society
  • Environmental Society
  • Jacari (Volunteering in Oxford)
  • Tentelini (Teaching in Africa)
  • Antonian Wine Tasting Society (AWTS)

Sports clubs include men's and women's rowing teams, football teams, yoga, table tennis, cricket and dancesport.

The College also offers a gym facility, music room and a student late bar and café.

There is a medical suite with regular term-time attendance by a dedicated College Nurse and College Doctor. Careers and welfare events are organised throughout the year - recent events have included a seminar on ‘Doing a DPhil at St Antony's College’ and ‘Managing Exam Anxiety’

The College offers free access to storage for students on a course lasting two years or more.

Facilities for students with disabilities

Five bedrooms are specifically designed for students with a range of disabilities and are located in two accommodation blocks on the College campus. Students with disabilities are guaranteed a room in College for each year of study.

The College welcomes students with disabilities and will do all it reasonably can to help them, not only with accommodation but with access to and within College.

MCR

The St Antony's Graduate Common Room (GCR) exists to serve and support the student members of the College and is the equivalent of the MCR in many other colleges. It is represented on the College’s Governing Body and Management Executive Team.
