Childcare services

The University has a number of subsidised nursery places, a subsidised play scheme, and a limited amount of funding available.

If you are interested in getting a University subsidised nursery place, we strongly recommend that you contact the Childcare Officer as soon as you have received an offer of admission because there are long waiting lists for nursery places.

To find out more about childcare provision at the University, application procedures and general information, please see the website. You may contact the Childcare Officer for further information via e-mail at childcare@admin.ox.ac.uk.

They offer full-time places as well as two- and three-day part-time places. There is a waiting list, so you are advised to apply as soon as possible and not wait until you arrive.

Financial support

colour line

UK students can apply to the Access to Learning Fund for extra financial help while studying and all matriculated students are also eligible to apply to the University’ Hardship Fund which makes one-off awards for students in financial difficulties caused by unexpected circumstances. For both funds the level of award takes into account the financial circumstances of the applicant and any partner.

There is also a limited amount of government support available. UK students and some other categories of students may be eligible for Child Tax Credits from the Inland Revenue. To find out more, please contact the Inland Revenue on 0845 300 3900 or see the Inland Revenue website.

PGCE students from the UK may be eligible to apply for the Parents’ Learning Allowance and the Childcare Grant. In order to qualify for a Childcare Grant, students must be paying for registered childcare. For further details please see the UK Government website.
