The China Oxford Scholarship Fund (COSF) was established in 1992 to provide scholarships for students from China who have been accepted for graduate study at Oxford and who will return and contribute to the future development of China after their studies.
COSF is run by volunteers and is completely independent of the University, therefore please refer to the COSF website for the definitive information about these scholarships.
COSF offer a number of different awards on an annual basis, the value of which will vary. COSF usually expect the awards to be used towards the cost of tuition fees.
Decisions are expected to be made by the end of August 2017. If you have not heard from COSF by this time, then please assume that your application has been unsuccessful. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we regret that we are unable to contact unsuccessful applicants individually or provide feedback on applications.
You must be applying to start a new full-time master's or DPhil course at Oxford. Continuing Oxford students may also be considered, but preference is given to students who will be beginning their first year of graduate studies at Oxford and those applying to COSF for the first time.
You must be a national of, and ordinarily resident in, the People's Republic of China (including Hong Kong and Macau).
You must be intending to eventually return to China to make a meaningful contribution in your area of study.
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
This scholarship is not open to applications from candidates who hold deferred offers to start in 2017-18.
For further details about the eligibility criteria and application process, see the Frequently asked questions (this document will shortly be added under Related documents on this page).
The application process for China Oxford Scholarship Fund (COSF) awards is completely separate from that of the University of Oxford.
You should apply directly to COSF. Full details of how to apply are available on the China Oxford Scholarship Fund website.
If you are not a continuing student, you must also submit an application for graduate study to Oxford. You must have received an admissions offer from Oxford before applying to COSF. You are therefore recommended to apply to Oxford by the relevant January deadline for your course (6 January or 20 January 2017). See the Courses page for the deadline applicable to your course.
Candidates are shortlisted for interview by the COSF Award Panel. Interviews are expected to be scheduled from May to July 2017 and dates will vary according to location. Please note that COSF are unable to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications.
If you have any questions about this scholarship which are not answered above, in the Frequently asked questions, or on the COSF website, please contact COSF directly.
