George Eastman Visiting Professor 2016-7

HUMANITIES DIVISION and MEDICAL SCIENCES DIVISION in association with Balliol College

The University invites expressions of interest in the George Eastman Visiting Professorship in the academic year 2016-7 from citizens of the United States, in a branch of university study within the Humanities or the Medical Sciences. Like previous holders of this distinguished chair, the new visiting professor will be eminent in teaching and/or research.

Information about the constituent units of the Medical Sciences Division and the Humanities Division at Oxford may be found at www.ox.ac.uk/divisions/index.html.

The Visiting Professor is normally resident in Oxford for one academic year and is required to deliver 24 lectures or classes during that time. In parallel with holding the chair, the Professor will be elected to a Professorial Fellowship at Balliol College. Eastman House, the official residence of the Professor, is provided rent-free. A professorial stipend is payable for the year, and the University meets the reasonable cost of the Professor’s return air fare from the United States.

Enquiries from prospective candidates should be addressed by email to professorships@admin.ox.ac.uk. Candidates will be asked to seek nomination by another individual through one of the constituent units of the relevant Oxford division, and to supply a cv/list of publications and the names of three referees. The closing date for nominations is Monday 7 October 2013.

Applications are particularly welcome from women and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
