Geography and the Environment
Myles Allen, University Lecturer in Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics, was appointed Professor in the School of Geography and the Environment and became a fellow of Linacre College with effect from 4 April.
Economics
Mark Armstrong, Professor of Economics at University College London and Director of the ELSE Research Centre, was appointed Professor of Economics and became a fellow of All Souls College with effect from 1 September.
Chemical Pathology
Neil Barclay, Professor of Molecular Immunology, was appointed E P Abraham Professor of Chemical Pathology and became a fellow of Lincoln College with effect from 21 March.
Mechanistic Cell Biology
Francis Barr, North West Cancer Research Chair of Molecular Oncology at the University of Liverpool, was appointed E P Abraham Professor of Mechanistic Cell Biology and became a fellow of Trinity College with effect from 1 September.
History of the British Commonwealth
James Belich, Research Professor of History at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, was appointed Beit Professor of the History of the British Commonwealth and became a fellow of Balliol College with effect from 30 September 2011.
Turbomachinery
Peter Ireland, Rolls-Royce Associate Fellow in Heat Transfer at Rolls-Royce, Derby, was appointed Donald Schultz Professor of Turbomachinery and became a fellow of St Catherine’s College with effect from 1 January.
Scientific Visualisation
Min Chen, Professor of Computer Science at Swansea University, was appointed Professor of Scientific Visualisation in the Oxford e-Research Centre and became a fellow of Pembroke College with effect from 1 May.
Psychology
David Clark, Professor of Psychology at King’s College London and Head of the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma at Maudsley Hospital, London, was appointed Professor of Psychology and became a fellow of Magdalen College with effect from 1 September.
Laws of the British Commonwealth and the United States
Sandra Fredman, Professor of Law at Oxford, Honorary Professor at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and Barrister, Old Square Chambers, London, was appointed Rhodes Professor of the Laws of the British Commonwealth and the United States and became a fellow of Pembroke College on 1 September.
Visiting Professorship in the Medical, Biological and Chemical Sciences
Anthony Green, Professor of Haemato-Oncology at the University of Cambridge, was appointed Newton Abraham Visiting Professor in the Medical, Biological and Chemical Sciences and a fellow of Lincoln College from 1 April to 30 September 2011.
General Practice
Richard Hobbs, Professor and Head of Primary Care Clinical Sciences at the University of Birmingham, National Director of the NIHR National School for Primary Care Research and President of the Council for Cardiovascular Primary Care European Society of Cardiology, was appointed Professor of General Practice and became a fellow of Harris Manchester College with effect from 1 May.
Cardiovascular Medicine
Shoumo Bhattacharya, Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital and British Heart Foundation Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at Oxford, was appointed Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and became a fellow of Green Templeton College with effect from 1 December.
Biomedical Engineering
Alison Noble, Professor of Engineering Science at Oxford, was appointed Professor of Biomedical Engineering and became a fellow of St Hilda’s College with effect from 4 April.
Economic History
Kevin O’Rourke, Professor of Economics at Trinity College, Dublin, was appointed Chichele Professor of Economic History-elect with effect from 21 March, and took up the appointment full time with effect from Autumn 2011. He also became a fellow of All Souls College.
Islamic Art and Architecture
Oliver Watson, Director of the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar, was appointed Ieoh Ming Pei Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture and became a fellow of Wolfson College with effect from 1 May.
Cellular Pathology
Christoph Tang, Professor in Infectious Diseases at Imperial College London, was appointed Glaxo Professor of Cellular Pathology and became a fellow of Exeter College with effect from 1 August.
Molecular Biophysics
Mark Sansom, Professor in Oxford’s Department of Biochemistry, Head of the Laboratory of Molecular and Systems Biochemistry;and Director of Structural Bioinformatics and Computational Biochemistry, was appointed David Phillips Professor of Molecular Biophysics and became a fellow of Corpus Christi College with effect from 1 April.

Medieval English Palaeography
Daniel Wakelin, Lecturer in English at the University of Cambridge was appointed Jeremy Griffiths Professor of Medieval English Palaeography and became a fellow of St Hilda's College with effect from 1 October.
American Government
Michael Bailey, Colonel William J Walsh Professor of American Government at Georgetown University, was appointed John G Winant Visiting Professor of American Government and a fellow of Balliol College.
George Eastman Visiting Professor
Carl Wunsch, Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Physical Oceanography at MIT, was appointed George Eastman Visiting Professor and a fellow of Balliol College.
Fine Art
Anthony Cutler, Evan Pugh Professor of Art History at Pennsylvania State University, was appointed Slade Professor of Fine Art for the academic year. The post is associated with All Souls College.
Psychiatry
Charles Newton, Professor in Tropical Neurosciences and Paediatrics at University College London, Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Fellow at the Centre for Geographical Medicine, Kilifi, Kenya, and Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, was appointed Cheryl and Reece Scott Professor of Psychiatry and became a fellow of St John’s College with effect from 1 October.
Musculoskeletal Sciences
Peter Taylor, Professor of Experimental Rheumatology, Honorary Consultant Physician at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology Division, Imperial College London, and Lead Clinician Rheumatologist and Campus Dean, was appointed Norman Collisson Professor of Musculoskeletal Sciences and became a fellow of St Peter’s College on 1 October.

Glyn Humphreys, Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Director of Research, College of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Birmingham and Scientific Director, Birmingham University Imaging Centre was appointed Watts Professor of Psychology and became a fellow of Wolfson College with effect from 1 October 2011.
Visiting Professorship in Medical, Biological and Chemical Sciences
Andrew Holmes, Professor in the School of Chemistry and Bio21 at the University of Melbourne, Australia, was appointed Newton Abraham Visiting Professor and became a fellow of Lincoln College from 8 October for a period of six months.
Visiting Professorship in American History
Philip Morgan, Harry C Black Professor of History at Johns Hopkins University, was appointed the Harold Vyvyan Harmsworth Professor of American History a fellow of The Queen’s College for the academic year.

Pekka Hämäläinen, Professor of History at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and fellow of l’Institut d’Études, Nantes, has been appointed Rhodes Professor of American History and a fellow of St Catherine’s College with effect from 1 July 2012.

Jo-Anne Baird, Professor in Educational Assessment at the University of Bristol, was appointed Pearson Professor of Educational Assessment and Director of the Centre for Educational Assessment in the Department of Education and became a fellow of St Anne’s College with effect from 1 October
Development and Reproduction
Paul Riley, Professor of Molecular Cardiology at University College London, was appointed Professor of Development and Reproduction and became a fellow of Jesus College with effect from 1 October.
History
Lyndal Roper, Fellow and Tutor in History at Balliol College, Oxford, was appointed Regius Professor of History and became a fellow of Oriel College with effect from 1 October.
Contemporary Theatre
Meera Syal, playwright, actress and writer, was appointed Cameron Mackintosh Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theatre. The post is based at St Catherine’s College.
Ancient History
Nicholas Purcell, Lecturer in Ancient History at Oxford, was appointed Camden Professor of Ancient History and a fellow of Brasenose College with effect from 1 October.
