St Antony's College, MSc in Latin American Studies

I went to Abingdon School just outside Oxford, before doing my undergraduate degree in Spanish and Italian at St Andrews University in Scotland. I am currently at St Antony's College reading for an MSc in Latin American Studies.

Instead of being an anonymous face in a lecture theatre, you are provided with a platform to discuss your ideas

The application asked for writing samples, references, personal statements and general information, all fairly standard for a postgraduate application. I found that it was thorough and this enables departments to really get a perspective on what you've done and what you want to specialize in, and see if they can cover this.

I worked in Argentina and ever since have followed the Latin American news. I did my undergraduate dissertation on Venezuelan politics and developed a passion for the subject. I decided that I wanted to specialize in a specific geographical area. The course's range of modules and staff specialties, when considered alongside Oxford's research facilities and library system, are nothing less than superb.

I have been able to fully pursue my particular research interests. The staff have been most accommodating and enthusiastic in following along with all of our research interests.

With the range of talks and subjects available, all delivered by experts within their fields, you feel you could stay here forever and never get bored. I have been able to attend talks on topics from Pakistani foreign policy to British military history, all given by experts within their fields.

I have developed an understanding of building and developing an argument, as well as time management and concise writing. The tutorial system enables full personal attention. Instead of being an anonymous face in a lecture theatre, you are provided with a platform to discuss your ideas and further your individual knowledge.

The college structure is superb. They are friendly, supportive and keen to help you both as a student and with any personal issues too.
