Wycliffe Hall, Theology
My father is Dutch and my mother is Indonesian, and I was brought up in Germany. Neither of my parents went to university. I graduated with an IB Diploma, obtained at the Frankfurt International School prior to obtaining a degree in Psychology from the University of Warwick.
Having studied at undergraduate level at another university prior to coming here, I can confidently say that the tutorial system is my preferred way of study
On interview day I was designated a college host, who made me feel
welcome and relaxed. I believe interviews allow tutors to examine the
applicant's motivations for studying, as well as to see how a candidate
reasons or debates: traits that are best examined in an interview
setting.
As I row on the 1st XIII's Men's crew at Queen's, and
teach A-Level Psychology as a personal tutor six hours a week, I have
had to develop my time management skills and discipline myself to
consistently be fully focused on the task at hand.
I believe that
the tutorial system is probably the most important benefit of studying
at Oxford. Having studied at undergraduate level at another university
prior to coming here, I can confidently say that the tutorial system is
my preferred way of study. Not only does it give the student ample time
to read and write about a topic independently, it also forces the
student to test and defend his arguments with tutors and peers. The
notion that a world-class academic helps me understand and formulate an
opinion about a topic excites me and motivates me to expand my
intellectual horizons. I am glad to be at Oxford!
