Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world, and a leader in learning, teaching and research.
Philip Parsons was a fellow of St. John’s College before being made principal of Hart Hall, Oxford, in 1633. In his time, the college experienced the uncertainties of the Civil War and a rent crisis. He died this day in 1643. Hart Hall would be refounded as Hertford College in 1740. Credit: ODNB
