To celebrate the centenary in 2011 of the Oriel College Rhodes Building – funded through part of the bequest left to the college in the Will of Cecil Rhodes and designed by Basil Champneys – the college is undertaking a comprehensive refurbishment and redevelopment of the building, with all proposals in line with the architect’s original plans.

Redevelopment plans will include the replacement of the roof, improvement of the stonework, general alterations to the interior and the addition of a new top floor of student rooms. The Rhodes Building stands as a commemoration of one of the college’s most generous benefactors and this comprehensive programme will provide the very latest facilities while maintaining the historic nature of the building to ensure its viability for the next hundred years and beyond.
