Anna Abulafia, college lecturer and Director of Studies in History at Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge, was appointed Professor of the Study of the Abrahamic Religions and a fellow of Lady Margaret Hall with effect from 1 April.

Economic History

Stephen Broadberry, Professor of Economic History at the London School of Economics and Political Science, was appointed Professor of Economic History and became a fellow of Nuffield College with effect from 1 September.

Keith Channon

Cardiovascular Medicine

Keith Channon, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine; Honorary Consultant Cardiologist, John Radcliffe Hospital; Director, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre; and Director of Research and Development, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, was appointed Field Marshal Earl Alexander Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine with effect from 10 November. Professor Channon became a fellow of Exeter College.

Matthew Costa, Professor of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Warwick, and Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, was appointed Professor of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery and became a fellow of Wolfson College with effect from 11 May.

Hindy Najman, Professor of Religious Studies, Judaic Studies, Classics and Divinity at Yale University, was appointed Oriel and Laing Professor of the Interpretation of Holy Scripture and became a fellow of Oriel College with effect from 1 July.

Raymond Pierrehumbert, Louis Block Professor and Professor in the Geophysical Sciences, University of Chicago, was appointed Halley Professor of Physics and became a fellow of Jesus College with effect from 1 July.

Andrew Stephen, Assistant Professor of Business Administration and Katz Fellow in Marketing at the University of Pittsburgh, was appointed L’Oréal Professor in Marketing and became a fellow of Worcester College with effect from 1 June.

Wolfgang Ernst, Professor of Roman and Civil Law at Zurich University, was appointed Regius Professor of Civil Law and became a fellow of All Souls College with effect from 1 October. Her Majesty The Queen approved the appointment following the retirement of Professor Sirks.

Lorna Hutson, Berry Professor of English Literature at the University of St Andrews, was appointed Merton Professor of English Literature and a fellow of Merton College with effect from 1 September.

Paul Klenerman, Professor of Immunology and Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Research Fellow at Oxford, was appointed Sidney Truelove Professor of Gastroenterology and a fellow of Green Templeton College with effect from 1 October.

Rob Iliffe, Professor of Intellectual History and History of Science at the University of Sussex, was appointed Professor of the History of Science and became a fellow of Linacre College with effect from 1 January.

Simon Russell Beale, actor and music historian, took up the post of Cameron Mackintosh Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theatre with effect from February 2015. The post is based at St Catherine’s College.

Mary Carrington, Director and Senior Principal Scientist, Basic Sciences Program of Leidos Biomedical Research inc, Frederick, Maryland, was appointed Newton Abraham Visiting Professor in the Medical, Biological and Chemical Sciences and became a fellow of Lincoln College from 1 June 2015 until 31 May 2016.

Louise Richardson

Vice-Chancellor

Professor Louise Richardson, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of St Andrews, was appointed as Vice-Chancellor with effect from 1 January. Professor Richardson has led St Andrews for more than six years, combining strong institutional advancement with a distinguished academic career in the study of terrorism and security issues. Prior to joining St Andrews in 2009, Professor Richardson was Executive Dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University.

Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt, FREng, FBCS, Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Southampton was appointed Principal of Jesus College with effect from 1 August 2015. Professor Shadbolt is also Professorial Research Fellow in the Department of Computing Science.

Alan Rusbridger, journalist and former editor of The Guardian, was elected Principal of Lady Margaret Hall with effect from October 2015.

Miles Young, Chairman and CEO of the communications groups Ogilvy and Mather, was elected Warden of New College. Mr Young takes up the post in September 2016.
