Melinda Mills, Full Professor and Rosalind Franklin Research Fellow in the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, was appointed Nuffield Professor of Sociology and became a fellow of Nuffield College on 1 June.

Anna Nobre

Translational cognitive neuroscience

Anna Nobre, Titular Professor in Cognitive Neuroscience at Oxford and Director, Oxford Centre for Human Brain Activity at the Warneford Hospital, was appointed Professor of Translational Cognitive Neuroscience and became a fellow of St Catherine's College on 1 July.

Jeremy Tomlinson

Diabetic medicine

Jeremy Tomlinson, Professor of Endocrinology; MRC Senior Clinical Fellow, Centre for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of Birmingham; Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Birmingham Women's Hospital, Birmingham, was appointed Professor of Diabetic Medicine and a fellow of Keble College on 4 August.

Statistics

Arnaud Doucet, Professor in the Department of Statistics at Oxford and a member of the Oxford–Man Institute of Quantitative Finance, was appointed Professor of Statistics and became a fellow of Hertford College from 1 March 2014.

Marilyn Booth

The contemporary Arab world

Marilyn Booth, Iraq Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh; Joint Director, Centre for the Advanced Study of the Arab World, Universities of Durham, Edinburgh and Manchester, was appointed Khalid bin Abdullah Al Saud Professor for the Study of the Contemporary Arab World and became a fellow of Magdalen College from 1 September.

The exegesis of holy scripture

Markus Bockmuehl, Professor of Biblical and Early Christian Studies at Oxford, was appointed Dean Ireland's Professor of the Exegesis of Holy Scripture and became a fellow of Keble College on 1 October.

Horst Eidenmüller

Commercial law

Horst Eidenmüller, Professor of Private Law, German, European and International Commercial and Corporate Law; Director, Munich Center for Dispute Resolution; and Director, Institute of International Law, at Munich University, was appointed Freshfields Professor of Commercial Law and a fellow of St Hugh's College on 1 January.

Luca Enriques, Full Professor of Business Law at LUISS Guido Carli University, Rome, was appointed Allen and Overy Professor of Corporate Law and became a fellow of Jesus College on 1 October.

Carol Harrison, Professor of the History and Theology of the Latin West at the University of Durham, was appointed Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity and became a Canon of Christ Church on 1 January.

Jan Joosten

Hebrew and Regius Professorship

Professor Jan Joosten, Professor of Old Testament Exegesis at the University of Strasbourg, was appointed Professor of Hebrew and became a Student of Christ Church on 1 September. Her Majesty the Queen approved the appointment of Professor Joosten to the Regius Professorship of Hebrew on 1 October 2014 following the retirement of Professor Williamson.

Moral philosophy

Jefferson McMahan, Professor of Philosophy at Rutgers University, was appointed White's Professor of Moral Philosophy and a fellow of Corpus Christi College on 1 October.

Fiona Powrie

Musculoskeletal sciences

Fiona Powrie, Sidney Truelove Professor of Gastroenterology, was appointed Professor of Musculoskeletal Sciences and became a fellow of Wadham College on 1 October. Professor Powrie has also been appointed Director of the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology with effect from the same date.

Henrike Lähnemann, Chair of German Studies at Newcastle University, was appointed Professor of German Medieval and Linguistic Studies and became a fellow of St Edmund Hall with effect from 1 January.

Newton Abraham Visiting Professorship

Piero Olliaro, Leader, Intervention and Implementation Research, UNICEF/UNDP/WB/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, Geneva, was appointed Newton Abraham Visiting Professor in the Medical, Biological and Chemical Sciences and became a fellow of Lincoln College for 12 months from 1 June 2014.

George Eastman Visiting Professorship

Peter McCullagh, FRS, Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Chicago, was appointed George Eastman Visiting Professor for a period of 12 months from 1 October 2015. He will be a Professorial Fellow of Balliol College.
